Whitepaper: Through-Fault Current Monitoring to Plan Proper Maintenance

27th January 2025

One of the leading causes of power transformer failures in the Italian transmission grid has been linked to unpredictable external events—such as over-voltages, lightning strikes, and through fault currents (TFCs). In particular, TFCs are suspected to indirectly cause winding displacement in transformers and electrical failures in transformers connecting high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) networks.

By downloading our whitepaper, you’ll gain insights into a TFC monitoring system and the findings of a trial conducted on a TERNA HV/MV transformer. The objective of the trial was to detect over-currents and reveal how often these critical events go unnoticed by utilities.
