Camlin Energy Selected by SMUD to Advance Grid Modernisation and Asset Management through SAI

News

Camlin Energy, a global leader in smart monitoring and asset intelligence solutions for power utilities, today announced that the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has selected Camlin’s Sapient Asset Insight (SAI) system to support its asset management and grid modernisation initiatives.

As one of the largest community-owned electric utilities in the United States, serving more than 1.6 million people across the Sacramento region, SMUD is recognised nationally for its leadership in clean energy, innovation and grid resilience.

The deployment of Sapient Asset Insight will provide SMUD with advanced transformer and substation asset analytics, delivering enhanced visibility into asset health and performance across its network. By leveraging predictive monitoring and actionable intelligence, the system will help identify potential equipment issues before they impact reliability, enabling more proactive and effective asset management.

The agreement reinforces the strong and evolving relationship between Camlin and SMUD, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, operational excellence and the delivery of reliable, resilient electricity services to customers.

Through the implementation of SAI, SMUD will benefit from real-time asset health insights that support smarter maintenance planning, improved operational efficiency and longer asset lifecycles. The system’s advanced analytics capabilities are expected to help reduce unplanned outages, lower maintenance costs, minimise emergency interventions and support long-term infrastructure investment decisions.

Over the last two years, Camlin Energy has continued to invest in enhancing Sapient Asset Insight, working closely with global utilities to transform vast amounts of asset data into actionable intelligence. The system has become a cornerstone of modern utility asset management strategies, helping organisations move from reactive maintenance approaches to predictive, data-driven decision-making.

Keith Redfearn, President and CEO, Camlin Energy North America, said: “SMUD’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence makes them an ideal partner for Camlin. We’re delighted to expand our partnership with SMUD through the deployment of Sapient Asset Insight. It will provide the actionable intelligence needed to make smarter asset decisions, improve reliability and support SMUD’s long-term grid modernisation goals.”

Peter Cunningham, CEO, Camlin Group, added: “SMUD’s selection of Sapient Asset Insight highlights the increasing importance of data-driven asset management across the utility sector. We’re proud to support a utility recognised for innovation and look forward to helping deliver greater reliability, resilience and value for its customers.”

The project will also be supported through Camlin’s AAA service model, providing a structured, collaborative engagement framework designed to maximise long-term value and ensure sustainable success throughout the deployment and operation of the system.
