On the latest Talking New Energy episode from LCP Delta, Camlin Group CEO Peter Cunningham joins LCP Delta’s John Slowe, Partner and Tom Veli, Head of Networks to discuss how collaboration with technology partners is helping networks unlock hidden capacity, improve resilience and accelerate the energy transition.
Peter highlights Camlin’s dramatic recent expansion as a signal of how urgent and real this shift is, reflecting the demand for hardware, software and services that help networks operate smarter, not harder.
A regulatory shift toward prevention
The conversation turns to the changing expectations from regulators and system operators. Peter describes regulatory direction as increasingly future‑focused: “Ofgem…have done a good job in many ways in setting the picture for the future…It’s now about prevention rather than reaction. More and more it’s about network operators and utilities being able to predict what’s going to happen to their assets and being able to unlock hidden capacity. That hidden capacity is what can unlock greater system reliability and cleaner energy integration without the need for oversized, costly infrastructure build‑outs.”
Data, insight, and the challenge of complexity
Modern networks generate massive data streams. The critical task is not merely collecting data but organising it into decisions people can act on. As Peter explains: “The problem at the moment is the overwhelming amount of data that will be created…it’s the organisation of that data and turning that into insights that will make the difference….the businesses that can understand what’s important within that data and make decisions on that,” will lead the way.
This is the space where Camlin’s platforms, analytics, and partnerships aim to deliver the most value, helping operators see problems before they happen and make confident investments.
Innovation as business as usual
Looking ahead, Peter stresses that innovation is no longer a separate experiment or optional add‑on. It must be integrated, mainstream, and embedded into daily operations: “Those innovative technologies now must become business as usual, move into the mainstream. The appetite for innovation…has changed. They must be integrated, not kept in a separate room.”
A future powered by foresight
Ultimately, Peter frames the transformation in the clearest possible way: “The ability to predict and see into the future is probably the thing that’s changed in the last five to 10 years and will determine the future of electricity networks in the next five to 10 years.”
For Camlin, the opportunity is to continue partnering closely with our global customers, to turn data into insight, insight into action, and action into more resilient, cleaner electricity networks for decades to come.
