Camlin Rail’s PanVue System Highly Commended at Global Light Rail Awards 2025

News

Camlin Rail’s innovative PanVue System has been Highly Commended in the ‘Technical Innovation of the Year’ category at the 2025 Global Light Rail Awards, held last night in London.

The prestigious ceremony welcomed over 500 delegates from more than 110 leading organisations involved in the operation, maintenance, and management of light rail systems worldwide.

Accepting the award on behalf of the company, Camlin Rail’s Managing Director Paul Fleming, alongside team members, celebrated the recognition as a major milestone for the business.

“This award reflects Camlin Rail’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technology to the rail industry. PanVue provides operators with a robust solution to proactively monitor pantographs, reduce the risk of service disruption, and enhance overall safety, said Mr Fleming. “It’s a great honour to be recognised by our peers and the wider industry for our innovation and service excellence and I would like to extend my thanks to our entire rail team.”

The award-winning project, delivered in partnership with KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM), supports the Greater Manchester Metrolink, the UK’s largest light rail network. Spanning over 100km and serving approximately 120,000 passengers daily, the network is owned by Transport for Great Manchester (TfGM) and operated and maintained by KAM.

Traditionally, pantograph inspections on the Metrolink network were conducted manually every 20,000km (around every 10 weeks). With the deployment of PanVue, KAM now benefits from up to 10 inspections per day, allowing for early fault detection and significantly improving network reliability and operational efficiency.

Bilal Mohamed, Engineering Director at KAM, added: “Since installing PanVue, we’ve already seen a positive impact, identifying vehicles with developing issues and proactively removing them from service to prevent larger failures. The effectiveness of Camlin’s technology has been clearly demonstrated.”

Camlin Rail collaborated closely with KAM to design and implement a tailored system, ensuring optimal sensor placement and data performance within a challenging operational environment.

Peter Cunningham, Camlin Group CEO, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the Camlin Rail team and what they have accomplished. Being recognised on this stage is a real boost and reinforces our role as a trusted long-term partner to our customers. We’re delighted to continue our collaboration with KAM and other operators around the world to deliver high-impact solutions.”

The PanVue system is currently deployed globally by leading operators including Heathrow Express, Network Rail (UK), MTR (Hong Kong), RFI (Italy), Talgo (Spain), SEPTA, Stadler Rail, Caltrain, and Amtrak (USA).

The Global Light Rail Awards is the industry’s flagship annual awards ceremony, hosted in London by the publishers of Tramways & Urban Transit magazine. The event celebrates excellence innovation, and progress across the global light rail sector.
