Pantograph Monitoring System - Panvue

Keolis-Amey Metrolink (KAM)

Camlin Rail installed PanVue at Deansgate-Castlefield, Zone 1, to monitor the pantograph condition of Metrolink’s entire operating fleet in Greater Manchester in partnership with KAM, who operate and maintain the tramway system. Over a period of time, PanVue detected sudden drops in carbon wear.

Carbon Wear Incident

With PanVue, KAM detected early‑stage carbon wear on pantographs triggered by sudden, severe weather conditions that would have remained invisible between manual inspections. This meant faster intervention, reduced risk of service disruption, and a more resilient network.

KAM carried out manual inspections typically every 10 weeks and by installing PanVue, pantographs are now being inspected up to 10 times a day, providing early fault detection that is otherwise unachievable.
