Signet

Signalling faults can cause major disruptions and costly delays. Signet reduces the impact of faults on service continuity, keeping trains running and passengers moving.

Product overview

Signet is our Network Rail approved Reconfigurable Signalling Power system, allowing rail operators to maintain supply continuity during extreme fault conditions. In the event of PSP supply failure, cable fault, or if a section of the power cable is stolen, Signet first switches the circuit open in order to protect the power system. It then rapidly reconfigures the network in order to isolate the faulted or missing section and ensure continuity of supply. Once the fault has been repaired or the missing cable replaced, Signet allows power to be restored to the network, and returns the network to its original configuration.

Keeping passengers moving

From reconfiguring in 4 hours, to a few minutes

Thanks to Signet, Network Rail’s signalling power supply was automatically re-configured following a cable theft incident. Since 2005, we have installed and commissioned over 2500 Signets on major UK rail projects to deliver maximum signalling network availability, safety, and reliability.

“Camlin Rail are specialists. The team are great to work with, resolving any issues quickly and pro-actively, whilst maintaining a high level of technical support. Over the years, the value of their products has been proven – saving the business millions” – Dean Chauke, Regional Engineer for Electrification & Lines, Network Rail

Key features

Automated fault isolation

Instantly detects and isolates faulted or missing cable sections to protect the power system and maintain supply continuity.

Rapid network reconfiguration

Automatically reroutes power to restore service, minimising delays and ensuring uninterrupted signalling operations.

Real-time smart alarm reporting

Sends real-time alarms to network management systems like Network Rail’s Intelligent Infrastructure for fast response and oversight.

Operationally proven and trusted

Approved by Network Rail and trusted across UK rail projects, with over 2,500 units deployed, reducing downtime and improving reliability.

Benefits of Signet

1

Lower operational costs

Signet replaces labour-intensive fuse systems with automated fault isolation and power restoration, cutting maintenance expenses.

2

Better passenger experience

By reducing delays from power faults, Signet helps maintain service continuity and minimizes disruption for passengers.

3

Minimal manual intervention

Fully automated operation means faults are detected, isolated, and resolved without the need for on-site staff or manual switching.

4

Rapid fault recovery within minutes

Signet reconfigures the network and restores power within minutes, protecting schedules and reducing downtime across the rail network.

Why choose Signet?

Signet solves power supply problems in a cost effective and controllable manner by automatically restoring power to affected signals and reconfiguring the system to isolate the fault. Available in 400V 3-phase or 650V single-phase versions to suit IT or TN systems.
