Weezap
Advanced protection and monitoring to support efficient LV network automation and management
Network Operators are facing increasingly complex demand patterns due to rising EV ownership and the adoption of low carbon technologies.
Weezap is an advanced vacuum circuit breaker-based switch and recloser. It allows DNOx to adjust supply arrangements to connected circuits remotely and dynamically, in line with changing load and supply conditions.
Weezap protects the network, opening the circuit breaker in overload and fault conditions, and providing automatic reclosing to facilitate quick supply recovery. It also collects information about fault activity, supporting fault location with Camlin Energy's SELF and MELF based techniques.
Weezap operates in conjunction with Camlin Energy's Gateway management device that can be used to trip, close and configure multiple Weezap units. It can also be integrated with DNOs’ own network management systems.
Weezap can be configured to restore supply automatically within the regulatory window to circuits that have lost power due to transient faults.
The device can emulate characteristics of many different fuse models, automatically isolating supplies in the event of fault conditions.
Full power quality measurement capabilities, allowing Network Controllers to assess network conditions and make strategic decisions.
Quick and easy for field staff to retrofit safely on existing LV panels, with no need to replace the LV board and with minimal training requirements.
Camlin Energy acted as the key partner on the LCNI Tier 2 project Smart Street. This project proved that controllable switching devices, when integrated into the Network Management System (NMS), will allow the optimisation of voltage levels so that both customers’ appliances and the Electricity North West network run as efficiently as possible.
Following the successful innovation project, Electricity North West was awarded Innovation Roll-out Mechanism (IRM) funding for the targeted deployment of the Smart Street system to 180 distribution substations and the associated LV networks.
Optimisation software, part of the NMS, will use real time measurement and configuration data to manage the voltage and power flows on the Low Voltage (LV) network. Camlin Energy Weezap and Relink technology will be installed as part of the IRM to enable the optimisation software to autonomously manage the network.
